Biblical Characters vs the present generation
Acts 9 speak much of the life of Saul more famously known as Paul. The man who has written majority of the New Testament and by his testimony we can see the grace of the Lord work in him. The bible states that Saul was the type of ma who would threaten Christians and would act on his treats. Saul was a Jew and hated the Lord and his disciples his occupation was to persecute believers. Saul’s name was well known and feared among believers. Where everything changes for Saul was when He was on his way Damascus, sent there by the order of the priest to arrest and imprison believers whether man or female.
He had an encounter with the Lord Jesus, the man’s people he was persecuting. The conversation between him and Lord went as follow…
“Saul, Saul why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go to the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
This was when the Lord blinded Saul. Eventually Saul got healed after following the Lords instructions, there are a few things that I like about this passage of scriptures.
The Lord is just and fair as we been through at the start, but here we see the Lords mercy that he has towards people. I see that Jesus also died at the cross for Saul as bad of a person he is, He had probably 1000 of deaths that he was responsible for, God showed him grace. The second point his when God spoke to Saul with an audio voice, we can see that Jesus wants to have a intermit moment with the Lord, establishing a relationship between himself and Saul, while at the same time conveying the importance of the message he wanted to deliver to Saul.
As you would read on, on how the story continues we read of Gods faithful servant Ananias. God showed him a vision and went, even though he feared for his life. I believe as he went and stepped out, the Lord strengthened him.
The amazing part of the story of Saul is that he gave his life to the Jesus shortly after he was healed. The Lord turned a man who had hardened his hearts against the Lord, that just amazing. Saul after that the Lord had graces him with knowledge and understanding and in a short time preaching and proclaiming the word of God and It says that he baffled the Jews. No one could have ever predicted this man, Saul life changing this drastically and picture him as a believer.
I want you to imagine in your minds, the kind of person Saul would have been like if he lived in today’s world? I see someone like Hitler, a man who has authority and has prosecuted Christians and has committed many atrocities in his life. Would you imagine God saving that person or that person life changing for good and becoming a follower of Jesus? For me Hitler would be my modern day Saul.
Bringing it back to us, many of us have nowhere near done some of the things this two man described have done in over lives. If the was a scale that would weigh our sins compared to them we would be the skinny boy on the scale and they would be the strong muscular guy on the football or rugby team. Yet we still feel think to ourselves that the Lord won’t forgive us for what we done in the past. Or we may have a misconception who God is. I use to be ashamed for my sin that put Jesus die for me on the cross but as time went by I realised that there is no shame in Christ Jesus. What had happened my understanding changed on how I saw things.
I believe that God is taking me on a journey to understand his unlimited grace and there is so much out there that we don’t understand about Grace just how big it is. We already know that God has given us undeserving grace for the wrong that we have done even though we should have been punished for our wrong. Grace does not just deal with sin, but it’s also Gods unmerited favour on us. When God blesses us with things we don’t deserve or giving us things we never asked for. When Santa would have put you on the Bad list God puts you on the Good list.
Yesterday or should I say for a while know God has been taking me through the scriptures, and I thought I got the full picture of what grace is, I seen some of my own weakness of where I thought I was good Christian deserving of His grace in my past. Okay now let’s dig in the scripture so I can take you through the scriptures so we may go on this journey together. I believe in this walk tighter we will discover new things about yourselves that your knowledge and understanding will grow as we unravel the thread of Grace.
For us to understand Grace we are first going to have to go to the other curtain of Grace with is sin. We need to see for ourselves why grace is so important to us in our Christian walk. We will be looking and breaking apart several scriptures in the Bible to give us insight on this. Before we go any further we need to define what grace is and sin in plan terms.
Sin is separation from God, And the gap is coursed by the action that we do that stand against Gods will on earth or purpose.
Grace is Gods undeserving unmerited favour on one’s life. Meaning you did nothing to earn or to deserve it. It’s given out of God’s love for you.
So it is a known fact that God punishes sin, Its Gods duty to punish wrong doing or those who are workers of evil. We will start our search in the book of Romans the 1st chapter from verse 18-32.
For the wrath of God is revealed form against from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
This brief passage of scripture gives us an overview of history of what had taken place in the beginning of when men first entered the earth. We can find more information about this in Genesis. That was when sin was birthed into the world. Due to the action of Adam and Eve, the first humans on Earth.
Here are key point that I’ve gotten from this passages
God judges sin
God is a just God and he is all that is Righteous, and the Bible describes Him to be without sin, and that he is the only one who is worth to judge sin, for He is the impartial judge.
1 Peter 1:15-16
But a He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy”
1 Peter 2:21-23
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”. Who when the hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate, when he suffered, he made no threats instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges.
Only Him who has no sin can judge seen, you may recognise this phrase, “with what measure you judge it will be judged back to you”. The Father God know what best he is perfect and full of more love and compassion that me and you both could master up both in one 100 lifetimes. I personally don’t trust my judgement in most days.
Have you ever watched a court case on TV or a series where there is a court case? I personally enjoy series Law and Order or Suits. It’s hard to be sure is a person is guilty or not as a judge. Can you imagine the pressure that is put on our judges today to make the right decision? It’s just too stressful and too much work for us to do. That is why we leave God to make such decisions. God always knows best.
Men are made in the image of God
We are created by a creator, a designer an artist. He refers to us as his masterpiece. He made us with such love and there are scriptures that say he even has great plans for his creation. When God created us he inscribed his signature into our hearts, for we know that is where all the issues of life come flow. I believe that, that signature God left in our hearts it was his law inscribed in to our hearts, His will and dreams for us.
We start with a very famous scripture in Genesis when God first created the first man and women on earth.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love, Therefore with living kindness I have drawn you.
Were created for with love in our creators heart and we were created to dwell in our Fathers house for all eternity never to be apart from him. To dwell his spender. To give him glory and honour.
And lift his name high. But a sin created a gap that separated us form the Fathers love. For many generation, all that time away from God men grew cold and moved away from the only true God in the book of Genesis 6 there is a story of The Tower Babel. Were men where serving themselves, building a tower to reach there God. From there on paganism arose and other religion that are big on idol worshiping or the creation of new Gods. Like the God of Thunder, Thor. I’m sure we have all seen the movies or heard of the movies where he has appeared in Avengers. And the more time we spent away from God we became perfectos of evil. And even created new sins too.
Hebrews 8 verse 10 it states that God will put a new law into our hearts. This means that there had to have been an old law in our hearts.
“For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
As God creation we are called to bee his people that is his purpose. When we look at the book of Romans we are looking at a world living in the dark, in the sense of being away from Gods light. Romans was written sometime after the Death of Jesus and the Disciples where sent to all the world. I’m not a historian but its common sense. There was little light in the world, there were still large parts of the world that have not yet heard the gospel. And the disciples had lots of work still to do.
They knew in their hearts right from wrong. And they grew cold in their hearts and turned against God over time.
If you would look farther down the passage of Romans 1 from verse 28 to 32. It describes the type of sins that the people of that era were committing, it was a lawless time and people would act according to their instincts like the bible describes wild beasts.
Romans 1: 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their Knowledge, God gave them over to a debased min, to do those things which are not fitting. Being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil- mindedness they are backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of who practice them.
I use to wonder why how people in the world could be so could and heartless. The things which we as people would do to one another. The wars and genocides of people that still occur in some parts of the country. I would watch the news and seen a glimpse of some of this things happening in the world or hear of something horrible that happend to a friend and ask myself this question, How can a person do this to someone? I still seldomly watch the news because of the things I see there. There was a day I asked God why the world like this is and I remember him saying that, there are many people whose hearts have grown cold and that they are no longer convicted by their conscious. Because they have become comfortable in there sin. I than understood that is why the gospel is so important it bring hope and it has the power to change the current circumstances. I Romans 1 we can see that the circumstances back than were like they are now. They gospel back than changed so many of those peoples life. Many came to follow Jesus. Showing that there is power in this name that was preached.
Jesus is the embodiment of Grace
Then the angle said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2: 40
And the Child grew and become strong in spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon Him.
Somebody said something so profound on the last Sunday of the year 2018. They said Jesus is the carrier of Grace. That was so profound I have never looked at grace in that light before. Jesus is Grace. It oozes out of him like a river of living water and it never runs out, He always want to give it out to those who are in need of it. I the first scripture, men is a witness to the greatest gift that is given to men. He became the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world that we may be reconciled to God. We did not deserve such a gift, in fact we deserved to be punished for our sins. Jesus came to the earth with a purpose and when it was time to fulfill what He intended to do, He went through with it. No is no greater Love than that. At a time when the disciples where clueless of what was going to take place even after Jesus told them more than once they did not believe.
The following verse says that ‘the grace of God was upon Him’ Jesus carries grace. Jesus became the bridge of reconciliation with God the Father. All because God loved us, there are some passages in the bible that says that the love of God surpasses all understanding. We cannot fathom the mind of God.
There is a quote that came to me it says
“God love for you is GREATER than your sin. Every day HE gazes upon you with Love. And He gives you an open invitation to came to Him, every day you breathe.”
Jesus states that he first loved us and he proved his love and died. You can find this passage in Romans 5:8. What I really what to say is that there is nothing we can possibly do to chase God away from us. Or anything that is we can do. There is no sin that we can do to commit that God can’t forgive us. Let’s go through some of the common sin that we see in today’s world
You see what I have come to realise is that the price has been paid for in full. There is no sin that he did not pay for in full. The problem comes in when we as people label sin and give them ranking. We say one sin is greater than another, for example we say lying is a small sin compared to murder. And that is not the way God sees it. God time in and time out tells us “He will never leave us”. So many time in the bible. The scriptures of Romans 8:35-39 it expresses to us nothing can ever separate us from the love of God.
Called to live in freedom.
The problem here now is, if you’re deep in sin like the once we mentioned. How do we than live a life free from the law that condemns us? We love God so much but we still have sin in our lives. As people we are good in hiding our sins from the rest of the world from our parents or those whom our actions will hurt. Is possible for us to obtain to live a holy life like that of Christ We are far away from being perfect and we are not.
I have come to realise that there is no way we can do this by ourselves. In John 14:16 it talks of a Helper. What is the job of a helper, he is there to help you in your lives journey. He lives in us and he is the whisper that speaks to us in times of need or just to talk to you as a friend. He only speaks what Jesus says and reminds us of what he said in the scripture. There is so much more than that in him.
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him, but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. “ I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you.
I have come to learn that there has been an idea of what it means of being a Christian. Which tends to push people away. I know God’s intention for us is to live a life from sin. But we still do, we all fall short of this, but every day we try still. This idea is deep in our subconscious. Let me give you an example.
If a pastor was to cheat to his wife, we would assume he has lost love for God isn’t. But in fact he loves God with a burning heart despite his short comings. We judge without even knowing it. We focus on the bad more than the good and we are quick to judge. How a life of a believe in Christ should look like, should not be our owns idea but God’s.
I use to be a hypocrite because I would try to be a good Christian and try not to break the rules and life a holy life. What I did not realise, I would judge others why is this person being two faced for example? Or why don’t they to this? It’s not my place to judge but to love others and care for them. God deals with the sin, not us, let’s not make ourselves God. You could be deep in sin and believe in God. I understand that it’s a process of transformation of the mind and soul when you start your relationship with God as stated in Romans 12:2. I will finish of with this scripture in Romans 12:3
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think soberly, as God has dealt to each ones measure
My elder brother told me we are all at different paces in our race of faith as said in Hebrews 12. You may be in the end of the race and your friend at the starting point and another at the middle. That is how life.
2018 has been a great year so to speak so many good things have happened to me, more than the bad. You can say the scales of good outweigh the bad. This year I had the opportunity to travel, meet new people and make new friends and the best part of the year was to see God actually use me to carry out his will. I am also thankful for the people who have taken the time to read my blog and having the opportunity to impact and influence life for the good.
In the beginning of the year I had a prayer list of things that I would like, for I would have loved to have a car by now, a new phone etc. And most of the things I wanted I never saw, it the things I am ever asked for or thought of asking for, those are the thing I am most grateful for. I made new friends and got the chance to meet new people who have added flavour to my life. I am thankful that I was able to grow in confidence this year by writing a book which I though was impossible at this point in my life and even starting a blog has done wonders for my self-esteem. I never thought that there would be people who would be eager to hear what I would have to say, because people know me as the funny guy who is always making jokes and the fun guy to be around.
To be able to have a space where you can truly express your heart and thoughts to the world, speaking your truth in your own words with no one else cutting in. I thank everyone who has pushed me to do what I never would have done if it was not for them I thank everyone who keeps me doing what I am doing by commenting or by sending personal messages that are encouraging. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to travel, I have been Cape Town a place I have never been to before right here in my own country. I had a great time there I wish I had more time to see sites and see more of the place I wish I can go back next year and see more of the place.
My family too I’m so thankful for them, they may be difficult at times and hard to agree with them but they are a blessing to my life. I thank you a God for all that he has given me, I thank him for protecting me. I’m sure I have so much to be thankful for and I don’t even know all the things I should be thankful for but I definitely am thankful.
We are united by Christ through the cross, all nations and kingdom across the word under on King and one God. Adopted and set apart. Love brought us together and there is nothing that can ever separate us from Gods love.
I have walls up, down
To my left and right
All around me.
I have learned to become an architect.
In my past, I’ve been wracked.
People had come to my little village.
The came and left a mess.
Before I had no walls.
Now I have built one.
Its range goes as far as you sight can see
Its walls are as tall as the sky.
Before people they would come and go.
Now no one can enter my village.
My land has been empty of visitors
I have put up walls
Because you broke my heart.
Because not just once but twice.
Not only you but others too.
People entered my little village
And destroyed it.
My heart was the village.
The walls built to protect my village.
The bricks I used to build, were made up of…
The great wall now surround me.
The wall made my love grow cold.
The village lights no longer shine.
My heart has become darkened.
A brilliant architect I was.
I build a wall around my heart
To protect my heart from hurt and pain.
The wall that I build became my destroyer.
No longer can I feel, love, trust, or live.
People are not all bad.
I will build a new wall.
Built from all that good,
LOVE, JOY HAPPINESS, TRUST & UNDERSTANDING
My wall will be strong and immovable.
It will guard my heart and soul.
From the invaders.
From my enemies.
From those who mean my village harm.
I’ve been hurt many times in my life, and what hurts us the most is the people closed to us. We have learned to put up walls around ourselves to make it hurt less and over time, we have become dull to the pain. Heartbreak is the worst when the ones we love leave or reject us. We should not close ourselves to people. People will never be perfect, they will always make mistakes like we do. Guard your heart but in the process don’t cut of people from our lives. Let’s forgive one another. I want to share this scriptures that will help us both get back on the right path.
Guarding your heart
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Let him in your heart (Jesus words to us).
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy, I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
He will guide us.
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own, he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
When I read story of man of faith and all the obstacles they went through but never doubted God. It’s so inspiring and amazing . People like Joshua who went into war and God gave him what he promised. Joseph who was soles into slavery but he never wavered in his faith. Not once does it say God why have you done this to me, but through his faith in God, God provided for him in his worst and he prospered. David who defeated a loin and a bear having complete trust in God.
But in this days, we doubt and our faith is not strong the situation that we see affect us and may make us doubt. We may have the Holy Spirit who tells us all truth but we would than say it was not him or such excuses. In times like this we need to press deeper and look at what the word says and look at the examples that we see in the Bible.
Stories that were written where written for especially me and you. To give us hope to left up our faith. To move from the impossible to the possible.
Today I read to story of Joshua and that did something to me on the inside it showed me that despite my circumstances I don’t have to lose hope. Word give hope and reading a simple story can be life changing.
We are seeds of love.
Planted by the gardener.
The words He speaks over me.
Make my roots to go deep and give me strength.
For I am a seed of love.
I am a seed of love
My stem grows up toward the sun.
For it radiates rays of love.
I aspire to be like the Son.
Every day the gardener waters me with faith, hope and love.
So all I can now do is to grow into it.
For I am a seed of love.
For His love is like no other.
No one can love like He can.
For He is the architecture of love.
The architect of who I am.
The start and end of romance.
We as people or should I say that I tend to look for love in other people. I often Thought i could get that kind of love from the people around me. But I then relished that it would not be the same only He can give me that kind of love. The more I get to him the more my capability to love grows
You may know his name.
His body was brutalized and left for dead.
His hand were nailed on the cross.
His feet bind together and nailed.
The anguish he felt as his flesh
Was torn apart from his body.
He paid the highest price, of all.
For only He could satisfy the law.
The law stood against God
It was met for good and for
The betterment of all.
But it to imprison us.
To death and sin, for we could
Not pay the price it demand.
For we fall short.
Never seeming able to do enough
After the cross He rose
Back to life by His Spirit
He told me that He also gave
You this Spirit, whom broke
the hold of death.
Liberated and set free and set apart
My flesh a living sacrifice
My spirit revived within
Death no longer reigns in me.
Only Peace and life.
Kindness S Roman 8/ Galation 5
Friendship can be said its like building a house, its foundation is time, patience, trust, compassion and kindness, and its cornerstone is Love.
As you build from the foundations, the house begins to grow. the goal is to have friendship that is to withstand the test of time and the storms of life. And that is a complete house.
The house is build on deep emotional ties, that takes place between people, the deeper the roots the more complete the house becomes as we build.
Sustaining a friendship is hardest, especially at the start. Its like digging into hard soil, breaking ground in construction is the most important part, It determines the ending, will it fall or stand.
At the end people grow and change, but the heart never forgets who it loves. Bonded together through time and space.
This friendship does depend on how many ties you see your friends in a year, But depends on LOVE. And when you see the one that you love years later, you smile and say Friend.
(Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. Proverbs 4: 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.)
